Dr Deshmukh is founder faculty at Plaksha. Before joining Plaksha, He was Ramalingaswami Fellow at National Agri-Food Biotechnology Institute (NABI) Mohali, India. He obtained his Ph.D. degree in Agriculture Biotechnology from SRTMU, Nanded, India. Dr. Deshmukh did his first postdoc at the University Laval, Quebec, Canada where he worked on the molecular mechanisms involved in the uptake of silicon in plants. He identified silicon transporting aquaporins in several plant species through efficient exploration of omics resources. He did another postdoc at Missouri University, USA, where he was involved in research focusing on translational genomics and development of genomic resources for crop plants. Subsequently, he joined back at University Laval as Visiting Professor. At present his group is working on different challenging genome editing projects. He received several highly competitive awards like Ramalingaswami Fellowship Award and NASI-Scopus Young Scientist Award. He is recognized as a Fellow of ISGPB and ARRW. Recently, his name is featured in a list of World's Top 2% Scientists published by Stanford University. He has published over 150 papers in peer-reviewed journals. He is a editorial board member for several highly reputed journals like Journal of Advanced Research, The Plant Genome, PLoS One, BMC Biotechnology, and Frontiers in Genome Editing.
