Building as a Living Lab: Thermal Energy Storage
The Agrawal-Oswal Student Residence is not only a home, it also serves as an active testbed for cutting-edge clean energy research in partnership with the Indorama Ventures Center for Clean Energy.
- The challenge
High nighttime air conditioning demand leads to increased energy costs and grid strain. - Our objective
Optimize energy use by leveraging solar-powered Thermal Energy Storage (TES). - Innovative strategy
- A TES tank containing 70,000 balls filled with phase change material captures solar energy during the day.
- The stored energy will be released at night to provide efficient cooling.
- Future impact
Acts as a testbed for research, technology development, and policy solutions for sustainable energy management
