Rajesh Sharma

Prof Rajesh Sharma currently serves as an Associate Dean, Harish and Bina Shah School of AI and Computer Science, Program Chair, Computer Science and Artificial Intelligence, and as a Professor at Plaksha University. Prior to joining Plaksha, he was an Associate Professor (January 2022–January 2025) and led the Computational Social Science Group at the Institute of Computer Science, University of Tartu, Estonia. Rajesh also holds adjunct faculty positions at IIT Ropar, IIIT Delhi, the University of Tartu, Estonia, Lakehead University, Canada, and the Kyiv School of Economics, Ukraine.

His research group works on understanding societal challenges such as misinformation, hate speech, segregation, mental health, and user behaviour by analysing digital traces, including financial transactions, mobile call data records, and social media data. The group applies techniques from Artificial Intelligence (AI), Natural Language Processing (NLP), and Network Science, particularly Social Network Analysis.

Earlier, Prof Sharma joined the University of Tartu in August 2017 as a Senior Researcher, where he worked until December 2020. From January 2014 to July 2017, he held Research Fellow and Postdoctoral Researcher positions at the University of Bristol, Queen's University Belfast, UK, and the University of Bologna, Italy. Prior to that, he earned his PhD from Nanyang Technological University, Singapore, in December 2013. After completing his Master's from the Indian Institute of Technology Roorkee, he worked in the IT industry for about two and a half years.
