Prof Chaitanya Lekshmi Indira is a Member of the Research Advisory Council of Plaksha University. She is a materials scientist with over 16+ years of research experience in nanostructured materials, electrochemical and optical sensors for analyte detection, (photo-electro)catalysis, and nano-spin electronics. Her passion lies in research and technology development in healthcare, water quality monitoring, and sustainable energy through the use of advanced functional nanostructured materials and composites.
She is interested in adProfessing grand challenges in India and globally through research involving academia, government laboratories, and industry partnerships. She has authored 45 research publications in peer-reviewed international and national journals, secured several research and innovation grants from national, international, state government, and institutional funding agencies, and has three patents to her credit.
She is also actively involved in teaching, research supervision, student internships, and mentoring at Plaksha.
Prof Indira completed her master's degree and PhD at the Indian Institute of Science, Bengaluru, and served as a Visiting Scientist at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology, USA. She was also part of a multi-partner European Union project, serving as a Senior Postdoctoral Researcher at the National Nanotechnology Laboratory, Italy. Prior to joining Plaksha, she headed the Centers for Materials Science and Sensors and Nanoelectronics at CMR Institute of Technology, Bengaluru.
A recipient of several awards, including the Young Scientist Fellowship from the Department of Science and Technology, Government of India; the Mayanna Endowment Lecture Award from the Electrochemical Society of India; the Scientist of the Year 2017 Award at the European Advanced Materials Conference, Stockholm, Sweden; and the Bharat Vikas Award from the Institute of Self-Reliance, Bhubaneswar, on Citizen's Day for contributions to product development, Prof Indira also serves as a Governing Council Member of the Electrochemical Society of India and has been a Global Affiliate Member of the Society of Women Engineers since 2015.
