At the Center for Thinking, Language, and Communication (CTLC), we are committed to equipping students with the essential skills needed for academic and research excellence, professional success, and personal growth. Our courses span across undergraduate and doctoral programs, offering both core and elective pathways that emphasize communication, critical inquiry, and research rigor.

Undergraduate Communication Learning Pathway

The CTLC’s undergraduate pathway develops communication skills progressively across academic, personal, professional, research, and public-facing contexts.

Core Courses

  • Integrated Communication for Engineers 1 (Personal Communication): Students develop skills in self-discovery, conversation, teamwork, and presentations.
  • Integrated Communication for Engineers 2 (Academic Communication): Students build foundations in academic reading, writing, inquiry, and communication.
  • Literature Review: Students develop skills in reviewing, evaluating, and synthesizing academic literature.
  • Presenting Tech Projects: Students develop the ability to communicate technical ideas and projects clearly and effectively.
  • Business Communication: Students develop skills in professional documentation, personal branding, and interviewing.
  • Research Manuscript: Students learn to structure, develop, and communicate research through academic manuscripts.
  • Advanced Research Writing: Students develop advanced skills for communicating research to academic and professional audiences.

Open Electives

  • Foundations of English Language: Students strengthen their language proficiency for academic and professional communication.
  • Science Communication: Students learn to translate scientific research and technology into clear, engaging narratives for diverse audiences.
  • Conversational Punjabi: Students develop practical Punjabi language skills for everyday communication and interaction.

PhD Programs

  • Research Design Methodology (2 credits): PhD students develop an understanding of research questions, methodologies, and study designs, with an emphasis on academic rigor.
  • Research Publication Ethics (2 credits): PhD students develop an understanding of academic integrity, authorship standards, and ethical practices in research publication.

Credit Overview

  • Undergraduate – 4 ICE core courses (4 credits) + Electives (1–3 credits)
  • PhD – 2 doctoral courses (4 credits total)
