Prof Rajiv Ratn Shah is currently serving as a Visiting Associate Professor at Plaksha, where he is part of the Computer Science and Artificial Intelligence group. Prior to Plaksha, he was working as Associate Professor and Institute Chair Professor in the Department of Computer Science and Engineering, jointly affiliated with the Department of Human-Centered Design at IIIT Delhi.
At IIIT Delhi, he leads several major research initiatives, including the MIDAS Research Lab and the GS1 Datakart Center of Excellence. He also served as the head of the TCS Center of Design and New Media and the Department of Human-Centered Design at IIIT Delhi.
Prof Shah earned his PhD in Computer Science from the National University of Singapore (NUS), which ranks 4th globally in Computer Science according to the QS World University Rankings by Subject 2025.
He has received numerous prestigious accolades, such as the Heidelberg Laureate Forum Young Researcher Fellowship, the Adobe Faculty Award, the Outstanding Researcher Award from the CSE Department at IIIT Delhi, and multiple Best Paper Awards at leading international conferences, including IEEE IJCB, AAAI, IEEE ISM, IEEE BigMM, COLING, and ACM MM Asia.
He is also significantly involved in the organization of different premier AI conferences and journals; for instance, he is currently serving as the Associate Editor of IEEE Transactions on Multimedia.
His research spans a broad range of areas, including Machine Learning and Artificial Intelligence, Natural Language Processing, Multimedia Content Processing, Speech Processing, and Multimodal Large Language Models (LLMs). The impact of his work is demonstrated by his Google Scholar metrics: over 8,243 citations, an h-index of 49, and an i10-index of 166 (as of Aug 10, 2025).
Prof Shah actively collaborates with industry leaders, providing research consultancy to organizations such as Adobe, Sony Research India, and SigSAIL. He has also served as a jury member for various prestigious events, including the 15th edition of the Aegis Graham Bell Awards, where he contributed to the evaluation of entries in the Generative AI (GenAI) category.
Students from his research lab have gone on to work at top tech companies like Google, Microsoft, Adobe, Amazon, Flipkart, and Meta, and pursue graduate studies at world-renowned institutions including Stanford, Carnegie Mellon, Oxford, and Johns Hopkins, among others.
