Frequently Asked Questions
Plaksha’s BTech in Robotics and Autonomous Systems (RAS) is designed to be different from traditional electrical and mechanical engineering programs. Instead of siloed streams, it integrates computing, mechatronics and human behavior into a single interdisciplinary major, preparing students for modern robotics and autonomous systems careers rather than for narrowly defined engineering roles.
Graduates of the Robotics and Autonomous Systems (RAS) major at Plaksha University can design and build a wide range of intelligent, real-world systems. These include autonomous vehicles that can sense and understand their surroundings and communicate with nearby vehicles, as well as digital agriculture solutions that use low-cost sensors and drones to monitor crops and improve farming practices.
Students can also develop smart city technologies for applications such as transportation, energy management, healthcare, and emergency response. In medical robotics, they can work on technologies such as wearable prostheses and surgical robots. Other areas include industrial and consumer robotics, with applications in manufacturing, logistics, and everyday home environments.
Yes. Plaksha University has the ARK Foundation Robotics Lab, which builds autonomous drones, underwater robots and ground vehicles using industry grade tools, and offers research and hands-on student projects. Core courses in the RAS program, including Sensing and Actuation, Embedded Systems and Intelligent Machines, are lab heavy, giving students hands-on experience with sensors, actuators, microcontrollers, robotic construction and control systems throughout the program.
Cyber-physical systems and IoT are central to the RAS major. Connected Systems and IoT is a core course, and Embedded Systems teaches the design of electronic circuits, microcontroller programming, real-time operating systems and tiny machine learning for connected devices in medicine, smart cities and home appliances. These sit alongside Foundations of Computer Systems for systems-level programming depth. Students also have access to the Dixon IoT Lab, an innovation hub building sustainable, scalable IoT solutions with industry partners, currently applying research to road safety in Punjab through an MoU with the Punjab Police.
Graduates are prepared for careers in robotics engineering, autonomous vehicles, smart city infrastructure, medical robotics, industrial automation, drone technology, embedded systems and applied AI.
