Eligibility Criteria
The candidates with any one of the following qualifications in the concerned discipline are
eligible to apply for admission to the PhD program:
- 1-year/2-semester master's degree with at least 55% marks in aggregate or its equivalent grade after a 4-year/8-semester bachelor's degree program
- 2-year/4-semester master's degree with at least 55% marks in aggregate or its equivalent grade after a 3-year bachelor's degree
- 4-year/8-semester bachelor's degree program with at least 75% marks in aggregate or its equivalent grade
- MPhil degree with at least 55% marks in aggregate or its equivalent grade
- Qualifications declared equivalent to the master's degree by the corresponding statutory regulatory body, with at least 55% marks in aggregate or its equivalent grade
- An equivalent qualification from a foreign educational institution accredited by an assessment and accreditation agency which is approved, recognized or authorized by an authority, established or incorporated under a law in its home country or any other statutory authority in that country to assess, accredit or assure quality and standards of the educational institution
Admissions Process
Preference will be given to those applicants who have qualified in at least one of the exams: CSIR NET RF/DBT RF/ C NET RF/ATE/IIT AM/ RE etc. Such shortlisted candidates will be exempted from the written test for the admission to PhD program, and will be considered eligible directly for the interview. For other shortlisted candidates, a written test based on NET/ ATE syllabus of the concerned discipline, will be conducted to shortlist for the interview.

Important Dates
The PhD admissions take place twice a year - in the monsoon and spring session. Applicants are requested to check the dates for each session and apply accordingly.

- Application opening date: Mar 1, 2026

- Application shortlisting: Apr 16 - 30, 2026
- Written test and interview: May 1 - 15, 2026

Financial Support
- ₹ 48000 per month for students with 4-year Bachelor's + 2-year Master's degrees (MTech etc)
- ₹ 42000 per month in the first year for students with 4/5 year degrees (BTech, MSc etc) and ₹ 48000 per month in the subsequent years.
- Professional development allowance of ₹ 2 Lakh
- Nominal Fees (One-time Admission Fee: ₹ 10,000, Registration Fee per semester: ₹ 5000, Tuition Fee per semester: ₹ 5000 (95% Tuition Fee Waiver in lieu of the Teaching Assistance responsibility of 10 hours per week)
- Opportunities for additional paid teaching/research assistance
- Opportunity for up to 6 months of international fellowship at reputed institutions across the world to undertake research, including the support of airfare, and a monthly stipend commensurate with living expenses at the host institute.
- Eight new PhD positions in Computer Science and AI, with a fellowship starting at ₹80,000/month, rising to ₹1,00,000 by year 5, are open at the Harish and Bina Shah School of AI and Computer Science
