Chiranjib Bhattacharyya is a Professor in the Department of Computer Science and Automation at IISc. His research interests lie in the theoretical foundations of Machine Learning and Optimization, with a particular emphasis on their applications to problems of industrial relevance.
Professor Bhattacharyya joined the Department of Computer Science and Automation at IISc in 2002 as an Assistant Professor. Prior to this appointment, he was a Postdoctoral Fellow at the University of California, Berkeley. He received the BE and ME degrees in Electrical Engineering from Jadavpur University and the Indian Institute of Science, respectively, and subsequently obtained the PhD degree from the Department of Computer Science and Automation.
Chiranjib is recognized beyond publications. In 2022 he was elected Fellow of the Indian Academy of Sciences, reflecting his continued research excellence and influence. He is a Fellow of the Indian National Academy of Engineering, and the Asia-Pacific Artificial Intelligence Association as well.
He has led projects advancing AI for healthcare and computational biology, including collaborations that apply machine learning to cancer genomics and precision medicine—bridging theory with impactful societal applications.
